March 29, 2016

Who doesn’t long for long, healthy and shiny hair? Some girls are blessed with thick locks that just grow like weeds, while the rest of us may need to put some effort in to achieve the hair we always dreamed of.

What many people don’t realize is that luscious hair can be achieved by simply revising your diet! There are some foods that are jam-packed with hair-loving nutrients, vitamin and minerals all of which can help to strengthen your hair, allowing it to grow longer and thicker.

1. Eggs

Eggs are one of the only foods that provide you will all 9 essential amino acids by simply eating one large boiled. The yolks are also rich in biotin, which is essential for thicker, healthier hair. Beware of eating too many egg whites, though, as they can block the absorption of biotin. Raw egg yolks are often applied to the hair as a hair treatment for an instant thickening effect once the hair is rinsed and dried.

2. Salmon or Oily Fish

Salmon or oily fish, such as sardines, are jam-packed with omega 3 fatty acids, which are not only fantastic for shiny, healthy hair, but they are essential for heart health too. Aim to eat fish at least 3 times a week to benefit.

3. Avocados

Avocados are another superfood that will greatly benefit your health, while nourishing your hair from the inside out. They are loaded with essential fatty acids, which will help to keep your hair soft, hydrated and stronger.

4. Sweet potatoes

Not only are they delicious, sweet potatoes are a rich source of betacarotene due to their rich and vibrant color. Betacarotene is converted into vitamin A in the body, and Vitamin A is essential for healthy hair growth, preventing dandruff and keeping the scalp hydrated.

5. Shellfish

Shellfish, such as crabs, oysters and clams, are a rich source of zinc. A deficiency of zinc results in slower hair growth, hair loss and even dandruff. Zinc keeps your hair follicles properly moisturised and promotes healthier and faster hair growth. This is the perfect excuse for you to indulge in a big glass of red and some seafood tonight!

Add these healthy foods to your diet at least a few times a week and within a few weeks you will start to notice the difference in not only how your hair looks, but how it feels too!
