Natural Age Spot Remedies

February 23, 2016

Age spots are an unfortunate part of life. As we age, our skin, which has been exposed to the sun over our lifetime, can start sprouting dark spots, also called liver spots. They are called liver spots because at one point, it was believed that they were connected to liver health. That has been disproven but the name stuck. Liver can also refer to the color of the spots, usually a dark brown or gray.

It is possible to prevent age spots. Keeping your skin away from a lot of direct sunlight can reduce the chances of getting them, whether it’s by regularly applying sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, not spending a lot of time in the sun, or preferably a combination of the above.

If you already have them, don’t worry. They’re usually harmless, meaning they don’t indicate skin cancer, though you should always get them checked out by a doctor at first. Age spots are usually caused by the accumulation of UV light over your lifetime that results in excess skin pigment, or melanin. They’re most likely to appear on your face or the backs of your hands.

There are many natural DIY ways to reduce the appearance of age spots, with no need for clinical help:

Lemon juice, applied twice a day, can remove age spots. It contains antioxidants and citric acid, which rejuvenate the skin and promote healing. It is also included in bleaching creams.

Apple cider vinegar is a wonderful home remedy for age spots! It is extremely potent and can remove skin tags, so using it on age spots is a good idea. Apply apple cider vinegar either straight or diluted with water and honey to your age spots. It contains vitamin C and antioxidants, which promote skin renewal. You can also mix it with orange juice to double the dose of vitamin C. Leave this mixture on until it dries and then rinse.

Vitamin E is also good for the skin. Using it daily will reduce the skin damage and promote healing. It works best if you use it when you first notice age spots.

Try our coffee scrubs on your skin, especially where age spots appear. The ingredients, particularly vitamin E and cocoa, stimulate cell repair, while caffeine stimulates blood flow to the skin for faster healing.
